JDRF Government Advocacy
JDRF has built a nationwide network of Advocates who are dedicated to finding a cure for type 1 diabetes. We are all working together to advance the search for a cure faster and more effectively.
Who are Advocates?
Anyone who has an interest in helping find a cure for type 1 is the perfect candidate! If you have 5 minutes every few months or would like to devote more time, we have a role for you! Each advocate can make a difference.
What We Do…
We work to secure funding and policies that will accelerate us toward a cure. We actively seek support for federal funding, primarily through the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and we encourage lawmakers to vote for policy legislation important to diabetes research.
Why is it Important?
JDRF Advocates have made a crucial difference in countinuing to secure federal funding (through the Special Diabetes Program or SDP). Currently, JDRF receives nearly $4 for every $1 we raise in research funding. Advocates have also made a difference in hastening the FDA approval of the Artificial Pancreas.
Elected officials are accountable to their constituents and they do listen. JDRF Advocates have a positive impact on the thinking, and voting of Congress.
